10 Jun Great Atlanta Coffee by Neighborhood
For a lot of Atlantans coffee is a staple and for some enthusiasts it may not be a stretch to choose a home near some fine java. This city has burst over the past several years not only with places to grab a high quality cup of coffee, but also with very stylized settings. From the tried and true, to something new we break down some great local spots by neighborhood.
Cabbagetown: ParkGrounds
For those of you with four-legged companions, ParkGrounds is the perfect spot for multitasking. Your pup can play in the large fenced in area while you sip a latte and catch up on your email from the free wifi on the covered deck. Since this place is tucked into the heart of Cabbagetown, it has a great community feel.
Candler Park: Dr. Bombay’s Underwater Tea Party
Sure the coffee and teas are great, but this place makes the list based on vibe and the name. This quirky Candler Park staple has eclectic decor with a variety of lamp shades and umbrellas hanging from the ceiling, but they are best known for offering High Tea service daily. The shop also supports The Learning Tea, an organization which funds education for struggling women in India.
Cheshire Bridge: Original House of Pancakes
This no-frills diner has some of the best coffee in city, not to mention some of the best breakfast eats. What OHOP’s secret? Heavy cream! No wimpy half-and-half at this joint. Try their unassuming brew with a splash of heavy cream and you will be floating away to coffee heaven.
Decatur/Oakhurst: Kavarna
Kavarna is another neighborhood feel cozy coffee shop that offers the very popular Batdorff & Bronson variety. What makes this place so great is the entertainment. They have a music venue and exhibition space that brings in talent from the community with regularly scheduled events. It’s the perfect relaxed blend of coffee and culture.
Grant Park: Octane and Little Tart Bakeshop
When this Westside hit opened a sister location in Grant Park, it was a sure to be success. Then add Octane to a collaboration with the Little Tart Bakeshop and now the rest is history. Located in the Jane off Memorial Drive, this location is bright, open and very beautiful. They drip each cup individually, but with one sip you’ll be sure it was worth the wait.
O4W: Condessa Coffee
Fusing coffee, craft cocktails, small plates and the right amount of swank, Condesa Coffee has all the makings of an outstanding urban experience. They pour Counter Culture coffee and innovate new coffee cocktails for the best of both worlds. Right off the Freedom Parkway bike trail, they’re the perfect pit stop during an afternoon ride.
Old Forth Ward gets a double mention because both locations are amazing and they are both on the fringe of the neighborhood in opposite directions. The newest Dancing Goats obviously has great coffee, but the outdoor patio is where it’s at. Large swings and ample, covered outdoor space takes this coffee shop into the realm outdoor oasis.
