It’s Spring Festival Weekend!

The 3rd weekend in April 2012, the 20th, 21st, and 22nd, is a busy one in Atlanta and launches the Festival Season.  No less than 5 Festivals take place this weekend within the metro Atlanta area.  We’ll review the 5 Festivals below.  You’re sure to find any number if fun activities to fill your weekend!

The SweetWater 420 Festival  –  This festival corresponds with Earth Day each year and is held in historic Candler Park.   The festival runs for 3 days and includes a 5k run, concerts, comedy shows, food and drink and special events for the kids.    Check the schedule of activities and plan your weekend.

The Bear on the Square Mountain Festival  –  Held in Dahlonega, the festival has the mission of preserving and celebrating the culture of the Southern Appalachians through the presentation of music, traditional craft and folkways.    The festival is full activities of all sorts:   A Mainstage, Live Country Auction, Mountain Marketplace, Festival Food, Master Classes, Workshops, Music on the Square, Dancing on the Square and various Kid’s Activities.  If you enjoy the culture of the Southern Appalachians, the music, food and/or the crafts, this is the festival for you.

Druid Hills Tour of Homes & Artist Market  –  This festival is all about art and architecture.   Put on by the Druid Hills Civic Association, this is considered the premiere tour of homes in Atlanta, and celebrates the beauty, tradition, and future of the Druid Hills neighborhood.    This year’s exhibit also features a special collection of paintings created by chimpanzees as part of the Children of Conservation, a global organization founded by Michele and Kerry Stumpe, promoting wildlife conservation in third world countries.   The Druid Hills Artist Market is a juried, indoor and outdoor market featuring high caliber works in a wide price range.   The Market is located in the historic Stonehenge Mansion at 1410 Ponce de Leon Avenue.

FSA International Heritage Festival  –  Learn about the traditions of different countries through demonstrations, food, entertainments and more.  Explore the parallels among cultures while learning about each country.  Appreciate the legacies of the citizens of this great nation!   The festival will be held at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater at Encore Park on Saturday, April 21, 2012, at 1:00 am to 5:00 pm.    Find the brochure for the festival here.

The DogWood Festival  –  This is likely Atlanta’s best known and most beloved festival. Virtually every kind of art imaginable is represented including sculpture, paintings, pottery, jewelry, photography and much more.   In addition to the fine art for adults and art collectors, there is a Kids Village featuring huge inflatables, arts & crafts and face painting for all ages, as well as the ever-popular 24-foot rock-climbing wall.  Check out the festival guide.

From this time on throughout the summer and fall metro Atlanta and, Georgia as a whole, will be bursting festivals of all kinds.  We’ll blog on more festivals in the coming weeks.
