In Touch with Nature in Garden Hills

Garden Hills, Atlanta is a historic district with planned housing to facilitate the use of cars after World War I.  It allowed people to settle in an area that was far away from their place of work and commute, thus making for better housing with single-family houses and planned landscape yards. Garden Hills, as a part of in-town Atlanta real estate, has always been an area for upper income families who prefer single-family homes.

Garden Hills is quaint with winding streets, houses that date from the early 20th century, parks, convenient shopping, churches and schools. There are three parks in the area: Sunnybrook Park, at the intersection of Brentwood Terrace and Brentwood Drive, Alexander Park, which is located on Wesley Road, and Frankie Allen Park, located on Pharr Road.

Sunnybrook Park is best described as a wooded area divided by a creek. Charming stone bridges are set across the creek to enable crossing. It is a favorite with families because of the numerous benches and swings. On sunny days, you will find many families with children in strollers enjoying a leisurely walk.

Alexander Park is an undeveloped wooded area named after Aaron Alexander.  If you are interested in getting up close and personal with nature, then this is a good park for a trek.  It may not be developed yet, but the appeal of the woods will leave you feeling relaxed and rejuvenated.

Frankie Allen Park has basketball courts and baseball fields.  The park is named after Frankie Allen, a famous law officer and baseball umpire.  A cemetery lies in a corner near the entrance as the Mount Olive Methodist – Episcopal Church was once located here. People still leave flowers at the grave-sites today.

The Garden Hills Pool is in the center of this neighborhood, and a clubhouse is located here that hosts many community activities. Garden Hills retains its rustic charm while being near to bustling city life.
