Dunwoody has long been one of Metro Atlanta’s top suburbs. Although Dunwoody officially became a city in 2008, it still draws in families looking to put down roots. The area has many charms to offer, easy access to major roads and into the city, great shopping and restaurants, many beautiful, tree lined neighborhoods, but what consistently brings families to Dunwoody are its schools – especially its elementary schools! Austin Elementary, on Roberts Drive, is a part of the DeKalb County School System. It is a pre-kindergarten through 5th grade school and has been awarded the Platinum Award for Excellence for Georgia Schools, the highest achievement for academic performance. As an integral part of Dunwoody Elementary Schools, Austin Elementary strives to provide a safe and nurturing environment where innovative teaching occurs using a wide variety of state of the art resources to create excellence in education of each student.
Kingsley Elementary school is a pre-kindergarten through 5th grade Charter School, which is a public school that is run by an independent entity with sponsorship from a state approved organization. Of Dunwoody Elementary Schools, Kingsley is one of the two Charter schools in the area that believes in “Brain Compatible Learning,” which utilizes a low stress but challenging environment where higher order thinking skills are developed. In 2008, Kingsley was given recognition by being named at that National Parent Teacher Group of the Year by PTO Today Magazine.
Vanderlyn Elementary, located on Vanderlyn Drive, prides itself on being community minded. It is dedicated to the pursuit of excellence in behavior and academics. Their educational environment for grades pre-kindergarten through 5th grade is unsurpassed within the state of Georgia for inspiring life-long learning, productive citizenship and international thinking. Vanderlyn Elementary has also received the Platinum Award for Excellence and is a 2011 ‘School of Excellence in Student Achievement”. Vanderlyn Elementary is a learning favorite with parents in that the student to teacher ratio is 14 to 1, which is low for Georgia schools.
