15 Mar Decatur Elementary Schools: Striving for Excellence Everyday

Decatur Elementary Schools are a part of the independent Decatur City School District.  The teachers in the district are top-notch and students in the district consistently perform above the state and national averages at all grade levels on standardized tests.  The whole school district, including Decatur Elementary Schools, particularly Oakhurst, Winnona Park and Oak Grove, is on track to ranking among the top 10 community school districts in the nation. 

Oakhurst Elementary School’s motto is “The Best Little School in the World.”  It is a K-3 school.  They endeavor to achieve the highest standard of excellence in challenging and meeting the needs of their students.  The atmosphere is one of cooperation, friendship and dedication among community members, students, parents and staff.  Parents are happy with the fact that Oakhurst Elementary and all Decatur Elementary Schools, despite budget cuts, have managed to keep PE, Music, Art and Spanish in their daily curriculum.

Winnona Park Elementary is a K-3 public school which offers, in addition to the standard statewide class curriculum, gifted classes as well as alternative and special education programs.  Decatur Elementary Schools, along with the rest of Georgia’s schools are leaning away from skill-based and objective instruction to performance standard education.

 Oak Grove Elementary is a pre-K thru 5th grade school which maintains a close-knit atmosphere.  In 2000, Oak Grove Elementary was given the Georgia School of Excellence Award.  Also, the US Department of Education further honored the school with the National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence Award recently.  The school is one of the Decatur Elementary Schools that incorporates planning and learning which is collaborative where both special education and gifted students have opportunities to learn alongside one another.

 Decatur Elementary Schools, in participation with the rest of Decatur’s City School District, is focused totally on the needs of its students.  All three elementary schools, Oakhurst, Winnona Park and Oak Grove maintain a standard of excellence that is unsurpassed compared with many other Georgia schools.
