DECATUR
Decatur is an intown suburb of Atlanta and part of the Atlanta Metropolitan area. Having witnessed tremendous economic progress over the last few years, a high level of local community involvement has earned Decatur a reputation as a neighborhood safe for families, couples and working professionals alike. A part of DeKalb county, it is flanked by downtown Atlanta on the East and Stone Mountain on the west.
Public transportation is served by 3 MARTA rail stations (Decatur, Avondale, Kensington Road) and several historic districts are situated here including Adair Park, South Candler Street-Agnes Scott College Historic District, Clairemont – Great Lakes and Clairemont Historic District, Downtown Decatur, Lenox Place, MAK Historic District, Oakhurst, Ponce de Leon Court Historic District, among several others.
Decatur is best known for its downtown square – a vibrant mélange of residences, businesses, restaurants, shops and green spaces, all within walking distance. The community gathers on the square for several activities through the year. The Old Decatur Courthouse serves as a grand centerpiece. Walking tours of the city are available as well as a Candlelight Tour of Home and Artwalk on select dates. Community events in Decatur include concerts on the square in the summer and a weekly farmers market. The Decatur Green Fest and Decatur Arts Festival are held in May while August brings along the AJC Decatur Book Festival, the largest independent book festival in the country. Decatur also has a wine tasting, craft beers and BBQ and Bluegrass festival, something for everyone!
